While this activity is mostly enjoyed by seasoned hunters, the main requirements include the ability to precisely fire a shotgun, and stamina for the long treks ahead. Not only is bird hunting enjoyed by hunters, it is also a wonderful opportunity for working dogs to fully utilise their hunting capabilities and get some fresh air in the great outdoors.
Visitors can expect to view a diversity of exotic birdlife at our farm, including notable species such as Grey-wing Francolin, Guineafowls and Yellow-billed Ducks. We are pleased to share that our population of Grey-wing Francolin thrive, thanks to our conservation efforts which revolve around vermin control. The key to protecting our birdlife, is to prevent predators such as small mongoose which eat the eggs, to the caracal/lynx and jackal.
We are renowned for our Grey-wing Francolin hunting safaris, as our area is home to an abundance of this bird species.
This experience includes trekking up the stunning Winterberg Mountains, where the views are truly magnificent. These birds are pursued with our trained Red Setter dogs and hunted using either 12-gauge or 20-gauge shotguns. Precision is an absolutely crucial skill for this type of hunting, which is why we encourage hunters to have some experience or practice, prior to partaking in this safari.
Not only will you enjoy the exciting task of pursuing these regal birds, you can also enjoy a moment of solitude as you take in the views and bask in the beauty of the African mountaintops.
Nestled in the heart of the rugged Eastern Cape, South Africa, Braeside Safaris invites you to experience the thrill of hunting in the vast African bush.
